Joining Mariner Wealth Advisors | A Strategic Partner
Why Mariner Wealth Advisors?
Hear from Benjamin Wong, former managing principal of Viewpoint Financial Network.
“Viewpoint Financial Network, San Francisco, Calf., joined Mariner Wealth Advisors through an acquisition in 2021. We had a firm called Viewpoint Financial Network.
Viewpoint was something we were very, very proud of. We were proud of our culture. We were proud of what we built, but I don’t think that’s unusual. I think anybody in this industry who’s an entrepreneur, who’s built that firm over a long period of time is proud of their culture. One thing we really appreciated about Mariner Wealth Advisors and why we joined is that they respected our culture. It might not have been exactly the same, but there’s quite a bit of alignment and the mutual respect for the cultures and respecting our individuality was an important part of the decision.
Another thing is we weren’t looking for an exit strategy. We had run into capacity walls as far as technology goes and our ability to grow. So we were looking for a strategic partner, but somebody that was trying to build something similar to what we were building and we found that in Mariner Wealth Advisors. And again, our strategy was not a sell and leave. I wanted a place for my employees to be able to grow and have the ability to expand what they do. That checked the box there. And I also didn’t feel like this was just a financial transaction, that Marty Bicknell, president and CEO, and the team was truly trying to build a strong RIA that we could be proud of.”
